  4. Approval of Minutes:

  5. A motion of Approval for the minutes of the Board of Directors meeting on 6 September 2017 was put forward by LTC Branch and seconded by MAJ Gibbard and COL Covington; motion was unanimously approved.

  6. Treasurer's Report: LTC Ed Groff, Treasurer

  7. Accounts status as of 04 October 2017
    1. Chapter Checking Account -      $4,565.09
    2. Chapter Scholarship Account -   $3,309.06
    3. Total -                                          $7,874.15

    4. Expenses (since last report):
      1. No expenses during month of September.
      2. $10,000.00 set aside for veteran's memorial.

    5. Revenue (since last report):
      1. $9.38 - Interest income from both accounts.

  8. Before Old and Standing Business, Friedman made a motion to fold together the two funds shown on the Treasurer's Report. The Checking Account(Admin account) draws interest and the scholarship account is a Money Market account with very little interest. Discussion was held on the purpose of the Scholarship Fund, especially since our intent for the account has changed over the years. Scholarship(s) would still be awarded and donations to the Scholarship Fund would still be accepted and recognized, but the existing funds may also be used for other ROTC/JROTC events. The motion was to approve the merging of the funds after approval by the General Membership Annual Meeting on 27 Oct 2017. Friedman 1st motion, Branch seconded the motion. Unanimously Approved.

  9. Old and Standing Business:

    1. Veterans Memorial - Brudzinski gave a detailed update on the Memorial including the status of the contract with sculptor Suzie Hallier, current fund balance and future fundraising events. The DBDA and the Boone Chamber will be supporting a fundraising event with Downtown Businesses from 8 Nov to 11 Nov. More details to follow.

    2. No additional discussion was held on future fundraising activities besides Strikes for Troops / Pancake Breakfast (See New Business).

  10. New Business:

    1. STRIKES FOR TROOPS FUNDRAISING EVENT: Gibbard briefed the Board on the details of the event being conducted on 5 Nov 2017 at the 10 High Country Bowling Lanes from 1400 to 1600. Gibbard provided a handout with instructions and will send the handout, via e-mail, to the General Membership. Gibbard suggested a silent auction be conducted at the Bowling Lanes during the event and asked the Board if we could get our spouses involved to help coordinate. Discussion of the idea was limited but suggested it is a topic for our GMM. Event will be placed on our Facebook page and Website.

    2. GENERAL MEMBERSHIP ANNUAL MEETING: Board was reminded of the upcoming GMM and the importance of getting the word out to all members. The flyer has been distributed to all members who should be encouraged to RSVP as soon as possible.

    3. BOARD VACANCIES: The guidelines in the HCCMOAA By-Laws were reviewed and since the timeline for nominating committee to form has past, it was recommended that the President send correspondence to the General Membership asking for members to submit names of potential new Board Member prior to the GMM. A vote will be conducted on those new candidates at the Annual meeting on 27 Oct 2017. Two new Board members are required.

    4. PANCAKE BREAKFAST: MARCH 2018: BBQ, Burgers and Brew will host our annual Pancake Breakfast. Branch and Brudzinski will chair the event. Details to follow.

    5. VETERANS DAY 11 NOV 2017: Motion to conduct the event on Saturday 11 Nov 2017 was proposed by Alley and seconded by Friedman. Unanimously Approved. Details regarding logistics were not discussed at this time, but the Band and Boone Mall were locked on for either day.

    6. 4TH QUARTER NCCOC MEETING: 17-18 Nov at Ft Bragg. President Schmitt is unable to attend and volunteers were asked to represent the Chapter. Covington expressed an interest but no firm commitment. Brudzinski will be the backup.

  11. Adjournment:  There being no further business, the Board of Directors meeting of the High Country Military Officers Association, Inc. was adjourned at 1900 to meet again on 1 November 2017 or at the call of the President.
