  1. The Board of Directors meeting for the High Country Military Officers Association, Inc. was called to order by Capt Doug May, USMC, (FMR), 1st Vice President of the Association, at 1720 at the Sagebrush Restaurant in Boone, North Carolina.

  8. Old and Standing Business:

    1. Veterans Memorial Update (Covington) A meeting was held on Monday, 3 April of all sub-committee heads at which the following information was presented/developed:
      • Publicity for the project is enhancing both in volume and quality.
      • Nineteen design entries have been received; Design Committee has responsibility for selecting finalists.
      • Selection process involves deep coordination with the town of Boone and the founding agreement that the town will assume designated responsibilities for maintenance and security of the Memorial Site.
      • The Engineering Committee will review proposals as appropriate.

    2. Veterans Memorial Update (Brudzinski) The Funding Committee has been concentrating recently on major donors. Mr. Rick Pedroni, CEO at Casa Rustica, has voluntarily become actively supportive of the funding project and proposed several very helpful creative ideas. Current contributions amount to $62,000.

    3. Memorial Day Observance, Monday May 29, 2017

    4. KEY PLANNING ISSUES AND DESIGNATED RESPONSIBILITIES
      1. Mall on-site logistics, to include chairs, podium, coordination: Friedman, Brudzinski
      2. Mall and Band liaison: Gibbard will coordinate with Band Director; Alley will check with Mall Director regarding mall calendar scheduling.
      3. Speaker: Covington raised a suggestion appreciated by all; Ben will discuss the possibility with the candidate.
      4. Flyers and programs: Fred Schmitt
      5. Publicity: Ideas advanced included contact with other military related organizations and civic leaders such as the Civil Air Patrol chapter, local chambers of commerce, elected officials (Country Commissioners? Town Councils? Mayor, Manager?)
      6. Color Guard: Gibbord will contact and coordinate


    5. Other/New Business:

      1. MAJ Gibbard presented a $150.00 check he secured from the local State Employees Association of North Carolina for the Veterans Memorial project.

      2. The question of financial support was raised and a motion was approved to provide funding as has been done previously. Funding for scholarships was thereby authorized.


    6. Adjournment:  There being no further business, the Board of Directors meeting of the High Country Military Officers Association, Inc. was adjourned at 1830 to meet again on 3 May 2017 or at the call of the President.
