The High Country Chapter Military Officers Association of America (HCCMOAA) was chartered October 2004. It is a tax exempt, non-profit organization subject to the appropriate to the federal, state and local laws. It is incorporated in the state of North Carolina. It is a-political and does not engage in partisan politics, but, will engage in activities designed to support legislation on behalf of active, retired and former members of the uniform services and their families. We are focused on community projects and programs directly related to our Military as can be seen on our cover page.

The Chapter currently has 46 members, 42 are retired or former officers and four(4) are surviving spouses of past officers. The Chapter also has 3 active honorary members. The Chapter serves Watauga, Avery and Michell counties. The Chapter is well recognized in the community . In 2018, after 2 years of planning, the Chapter, in cooperation with the Town of Boone and Watauga County Commissioners, dedicated the Watauga County Veterans’ Memorial (photo below). For the last 17 years, HCCMOAA has honored and remembered our Military Service Members with our military programs on Memorial Day and Veterans Day at Boone Mall. For the first time, in conjunction with Mount Lawn Cemetery in Boone, NC, our MOAA Chapter placed U.S. Flags on the grave sites of over 651 veterans buried at Mount Lawn Cemetery on Memorial Day and Veterans’ Day during 2023 and will continue in 2024.

The High Country Chapter is proud to have received the Level of Excellence (LOE) Award the last four of five years(only due to the Pandemic) and the Harris Communications Award for our Chapter Newsletter last year. 2023 is the first time our Website was entered for a Communication Award.
